With his residency at The Petrie Museum just underway and against the background of current political upheaval in his native Sudan, Al-Saddiq Al-Raddi gave this interview to The New Statesman. In it he discusses the impact of politics and ancient history on his work; the vital importance translation has played in his development as a poet; and his desire to open up his country to its richly diverse communities and cultures.
