Axmed Shiikh Jaamac
Axmed Shiikh Jaamac, was born in Las Anood District in 1942 and completed a degree in Journalism at the National University in Mogadishu. He died in Garoowe, Puntland, on 9th July 2014.
Axmed was an Arabic teacher at the Ministry of Education of the former Republic of Somalia. Following the collapse of Siad Barre's regime he moved to Yemen and worked for Al-Miithaaq, a Yemeni journal in which he published a weekly column. He returned to Somalia and was the director of the Puntland Ministry of Information, Telecommunications, Culture and Heritage in Garoowe.
A much loved and extremely popular poet, he leaves a legacy of outstanding poems that will remain a living part of Somali culture for many years to come.
