Choe Young-mi

Portrait photo of Choe Young-mi

Ch'oe Young-mi lives in Seoul and writes poems that combine urban realism with frequently erotic content. She emerged from the experience of the late 1980s when Korea made the transition from military to democratic government. Her work bears witness to an expectation of change which results in disillusion and she has been described in her own country as postmodern. We have translated two poems from her collection of 1994 Seuron Janchineun Kkunnat-da.
