London

This workshop is now sold out. If you are interested in attending but have not booked a place yet please email bern@poetrytranslation.org to be added to our waiting list. Thank you.

In the last workshop of our current series of Poetry Translation Workshops we will be translating from the West African language Yoruba for the first time. We will be discovering the work of poet, orator and linguist Taiwo Olunlade. Olunlade is an academic who has written widely about the Yoruba language.

Our guest translator for this session will be SOAS lecturer Tọ́lá Ọ̀ṣunnúgà. His research interests lie in African language media, Yoruba written poetry, folklore, stylistics, translation and interpreting.

The PTC is always excited to start working in a new language and this workshop promises to shine a light on poetry from an literary tradition underrepresented in English translation. Please join our translation community and take part in the collaborative translation process. You will be giving poetry from around the world a second life in English and meeting with likeminded people.

There is no need to know the language being translated, just come along!
