Translating Poetries - The Sarah Maguire Prize Shortlist

StAnza Poetry Festival
Online

Readings from poets and translators shortlisted for the Sarah Maguire Prize

Join six international poets and their translators who have been shortlisted for the inaugural Sarah Maguire Prize for Poetry in Translation and hear work from around the world. The participating poets are Nouri Al-Jarrah (Syria), Takako Arai (Japan), Fawzi Karim (Afghanistan), Kim Yideum (South Korea), Judith Santopietro (Mexico), and Yang Lian (China).

The prize recognises the best poetry from the languages of Africa, Asia and Latin America translated into English and published in 2018-19. Named in honour of the Poetry Translation Centre's founder, who is fondly remembered for her memorable readings at StAnza, it will be awarded in March 2021.

This event in partnership with the Poetry Translation Centre celebrates the poets and translators, as well as marking the publication of an anthology with selections from the shortlisted books. The full line-up will be revealed in January when the shortlist is announced.
