The Sudanese poet Al-Saddiq Al-Raddi, one of the leading African poets writing in Arabic, joined us for a special workshop for translators, led by his translators, Sarah Maguire and Atef Alshaer.
It’s always adds to the fascination of translating poetry when we’re lucky enough to have the poet with us for a workshop. Saddiq’s poems are enormously complicated in Arabic and, therefore, extremely difficult to translate. But he was able to give us a great deal of assistance in answering questions about the poem of his we translated, ‘A Body’. Let us know what you think about our translation.
We are grateful to Free Word for their support in hosting the workshop.
