Zoom
Online

Najwan Darwish has been called one of the foremost Arabic-language poets of his generation. His poems – often written in response to historical injustices in Palestine and beyond – can be woundingly direct or disconcertingly witty. Embrace is a new selection published as part of the PTC's World Poets Series contains translations made by Atef Alshaer with the UK poet Paul Batchelor.

Poet, critic and teacher, Paul Batchelor is the author of The Sinking Road and The Love Drag, as well teaching Creative Writing at Durham. Author and translator, Atef Alshaer’s publications include Poetry and Politics in the Modern Arab World and A Map of Absence: An Anthology of Palestinian Writing on the Nakba.

Join us online for dual language readings from this new book along with a discussion of the themes explored and the translation process with Najwan, Atef and Paul, hosted by Professor Stephen Regan.

This event is presented in partnership with Durham University's Centre for Poetry and Poetics.
