This week we bring you poems by Salome Benidze from Georgian & Azita Ghahreman from Iran.
Ghahreman’s work was translated by the filmmaker Elhum Shakerifar with the poet Maura Dooley and Benidze’s poems were brought into English by the translated Natalia Bukia-Peters working with the poet Helen Mort.
Both Salome Benidze and Azita Ghahreman lived through tumultuous times in their home countries and these political forces can be felt in their poetry. Their work reflects both personal stories and national narratives, looking at lost friends, lost parents and exile.
