A lizard walked beside me in the desert (First line)

A lizard walked beside me in the desert
And demanded a loaf of bread at every step
And I- carrying a large sack- told him jokingly
My sack is endless, come along!

I crossed the desert
Finished the bread sack
Paid into the sack of days
And what did I raise?
A monster which is now sleeping on the doorway.
