The Poetry Translation Centre first brought its translation workshops to Manchester as part of the International Mother Language Day celebrations organised by the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Met. Emerging Somali translator Elmi Ali and award-winning UK poet Emily Hasler ran a workshop looking at the work of a young Somali poet called Cabdiqadir Qalinle. The workshop was part of a day of translation workshops and readings held at the Anthony Burges Foundation in February 2018 marked Manchester’s designation as a UNESCO City of Literature.
