The Years in My Hair: 诗选 (1966-2017) was launched at an event at Translation Day Singapore, run in partnership with the Singapore Book Council in late September.

Christina Ng is a Singaporean writer and translator based in Berlin. In addition to winning the PEN Translates Award 2025 for The Years in My Hair, she also translated the Singaporean poet/author Liang Wern Fook’s short story collection, The Joy of a Left Hand, which was shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize 2024 Translation Category. Her own writing explores identity, cultural and generational traumas. She teaches literary translation classes at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University as well as leads literary translation and creative writing workshops.

Sadly, due to ill health, Dan Ying cannot join us to help launch her book. However, you can see Christina Ng at two upcoming events in the UK, a Masterclass and a reading at the National Centre for Writing in Norwich, and a launch event at the Rich Mix Centre in London. The Masterclass is called The Poem as an Instrument, where Ng considers the original poem as a musical instrument and each translation as a different way to create music from that instrument. Our London event will also present Dan Ying’s work in the context of Chinese music.

The publication of The Years in My Hair and Christina Ng’s events in Singapore and London are supported by the National Arts Council Singapore.
