The Hem of a Tight Skirt

The Hem of a Tight Skirt

Sounds of the tide and wind
ripple through the air
until green pines
suddenly flicker into vision.

Every sunset sparks a ball of sacred flames
that lights up your clenched eyes; from then on
falls into an eternal deep slumber.
When you lie down at the hem
of the tight-tight black skirt and
the light dancing on the water
cannot mirror so much splendour,
you sleep on till Dongting and Xizi Lake run dry—
this is where you belong, always.

The next time we gaze into each other’s eyes,
we will chew on a mouthful of memories
from that greasy-greasy midnight
when you painted half a rainbow on my lips.
