Marina Sánchez
Marina Sánchez is a mix of Indigenous Mexican, Spanish and British origins. She is an award-winning poet and translator, widely published in literary journals including The Shop, Artemis, South Bank, Acumen, Obsessed with Pipework, The Reader magazine and online, Anima Press, Second Light, Save As Writers, Scintilla, Magma, Stand, Poetry News, La Tundra, Nutshell, Morning Star and poetry kit (online) and on The Royal Society of Literature’s Write Across London (online). Her poems have won or been placed in national and international competitions.
Her pamphlet Dragon Child (Acumen, 2014), was Book of the Month in the poetry kit website and was featured in the British Library’s The Hidden surprises of Poetry Pamphlets Event, June 2019. Her poems are included in the first UK Latinx anthology, Un Nuevo Sol (flipped eye, 2019).
In June 2020, her poem Blessing 2020 was chosen by FLAWA (Festival of Latin American Women Artists) for their dance film, which can be viewed online.
Her pamphlet Mexica Mix won the Verve Pamphlet Competition in 2020 and has been well received. She is a Commended Finalist of the bilingual Victorina Press Poetry Award and translator and joint editor of VO(I)CES II, 2024.
Her poems are also included in the anthology Where we find ourselves (Arachne, 2021) and Menopause: The Anthology (Arachne, 2023) both of which sold out and have been reprinted.
She is a member of her local stanza group and has read at various venues including The Poetry Cafe, Crouch End festival, St John’s Church in Palmers Green, Torbay festival, the South Bank’s Beyond Belief festival (2017), Bare Lit festival (2019), Torriano Meeting House and The Roundhouse.
