We're delighted to announce the return of the Poetry Translation Centre's workshops after a long absence. Each workshop is led by the PTC's Director Sarah Maguire and a translator who brings along poems by a living African, Asian or Latin American poet in both the original language and as a very basic, literal translation. We then discuss the translation and try to find ways of making it work as an effective poem in English.

The first of four workshops will be led by poet and translator Alireza Abiz on a fascinating poet from Mashhad, Mohammed Bagher Kolahi Ahari.If you're not already on the PTC's workshop mailing list, please contact us to receive copies of the poems in Farsi and Alireza's literal translations.

Our poetry translation workshops are one of the PTC's core activities. Through them we've first encountered some of the poets we've gone on to translate, publish and record at length. A significant number of the poets who've visited the UK to take part in our tours were introduced to us by a translator bringing their poems to a workshop.

Please note that the workshops are ONLY open to anyone who has the skills to translate the poetry of a living African, Asian or Latin American poet with an established reputation in their own language. You don't need to send us your translations before you join us.If you've not attended one of our workshops before, please read this before booking a place.

Workshop places are limited so advance booking is essential. If you book a place and then need to cancel PLEASE let us know as someone else may be able to take it.
